cleanup

November 28th, 2008

I know, I know. A really compelling title for a blog post, right? But if you’d seen the mess I’d created with my fabric, thread and needles etc., you’d understand that it is worthy of celebration.

Also been brain-storming about some different bag styles with hemp as the base fabric. My drawings are lame though, so I’ll keep them to myself but will post pics once I get started!

more fujiwo ishimoto please

November 27th, 2008

A bag-in-progress using Fujiwo Ishimoto’s beautiful winter Kesästa Kesään

I know I basically committed textile sacrilage by taking the scissors to it but it’s *massive*. One half of it went to a wall-hanging, and the other half is being distributed across various projects.

The photos don’t really do it justice because the fabric is a very luscious, quality linen.

Now, these people know how to make the most of an Ishimoto print.

dodgy attempt at artsy label photo

Whoever came up with the idea to place the labels on a plate…

But then again, they’re not the suavest of labels. Lesson learnt: simple est mieux.

LABELS!

sewn-by-susie #1

October 26th, 2008

Frustratingly, I’ve been putting off finishing a bunch of products I’d half-made as I’ve been waiting for ‘sewn by susie’ woven labels. Not being able to stand having all these bits and pieces lying about any longer, I decided I’d just start finishing some of them and (begrudgingly) hand-sew the labels in when they come in. Hopefully they’ll come soon. They’re nothing too flash but they’ll tell you who your goods are sewn by!

I’ll have a fair variety of crafty items up for grabs in the shop, but here’s the first fully completed sewn-by-susie! It’s made from a beautiful vintage medium-weight cotton fabric that has the slightest sheen to it and is quite sturdy due to it being lined with another lovely medium-weight cotton canvas.

    SATCHEL!

Or book bag, uni bag, shopping bag…

Whatever you want it to be!

making lots of things

October 21st, 2008

That’s pretty much the gist of the post: I am making lots of things! I guess the other relevant and exciting part is that I am making things for other people…. but they don’t know it yet, and I don’t know who they are yet! Yes, I think I’m going to make available to the world wide web things sewn by susie…

I hope the world wide web people like it…

Store! Can’t wait. Will keep you posted.

my back is killing me, but i’ll still sew.

Funkis had a sale on all of their floor stock, so I took advantage and got me some funky Swedish fabric for an a-line skirt. I love to wear it; there’s such a satisfaction in creating something unique and yours. The other bonus is that you cut out the torture of shopping, which is is a bonus if, like me, you suck at shopping.

                       SKIRT!

maybe i’ll start drinking coffee

August 11th, 2008

According to this New York Times article, many of the negative effects previously thought to taunt coffee addicts may be a bunch of boeuf. Of course, the article doesn’t try too hard to present the counter data, maybe because standard wisdom already does that for us. I suspect that many of the positive effects of the stuff come from the various  associations and perks that come from  “going for a coffee.” In any case, drink up, mes ami(e)s! Photo by Amancay Maahs.

mmm… beef and guinness pie

August 9th, 2008

Made a version of this beef and guinness pie off taste.com.au.

I added a little extra garlic (as always), some tomato paste and salt & pepper. It turned out to be *quite* tasty, absolutely delicious with the requisite tomato sauce and of course pretty in lovely le creuset ramekins. Yum!

I’ve discovered an absolute love for the buttery puffy goodness of puff pastry. In fact, “puff pastry” was a contender for the name of this blog but I think “meat pie” sounds better, even if it is all carnivorous-like.

blog

August 9th, 2008

I am now blogging… with punctuation (mostly). upper case is kept to a minimum though.

It’s supposedly a healthy thing to do, which makes sense. It should help me temper that frustrated-with-my-tumultuous-and-uncooperative-recovery-bitch face and, importantly, let me bitch some more. Should have started this long ago.

Maybe I can even share pretty things I come across or create.
